Ron Watkins 1930 - 2011

The Archive was saddened to learn of the death of fellow Black Horse author, Ron Watkins - there's a tribute over on Broken Trails. Ron was from my own neck of the woods but I only ever met him once whilst visiting a library in Tonyrefail.

Ron Watkins was born in 1930 and educated at Leominster Grammar School. Much of his working life was with the Library Department of the then Rhondda Borough Council and Mid Glamorgan County Council and he became a Fellow of the Library Association. He has had 21 novels published plus three others which have been accepted for publication, largely in the genres of detective and western fiction. He spent ten years as a reader for a major London publisher and read over a thousand manuscripts in that capacity. Ron was President of Bridgend Writers Circle for many years and a regular contributor to Writing Magazine. He is also interested in playwriting; his latest play, Sextet, was performed at the Phoenix Theatre in Ton Pentre. He has run an advanced Welsh class called Magu Hyder and a Creative Writing class for Cardiff University’s Department of Lifelong Learning.
